About The Position

This 12-month contract position is for an Underwriting Trainee in the Property & Casualty department. The role involves analyzing business risks, understanding customer needs, and determining fair pricing for policies. Requirements

  • 0-2 years of work experience (not necessarily in insurance).
  • Bachelor's degree preferably in business, mathematics, economics or finance.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide information in a clear, concise manner with an appropriate level of detail and professionalism.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong business relationships.
  • Ability to gather information, analyze facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Initiative driven and self-starter.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Demonstrated organization skills and abilities.
  • Willingness to complete professional designation(s) and continued insurance education.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete a 6-month Underwriting Training Program, including on-the-job training, classroom instruction, self-study, case studies, rating and underwriting activities.
  • Develop judgment to accept, reject, or modify new/renewal business for various lines of business (with guidance and direction as needed from experienced underwriters or team leaders) to ensure a profitable book of business.
  • Price business in a timely manner according to company underwriting and pricing guidelines.
  • Market products to achieve company growth and profitability targets.
  • Develop on-going relationships with internal and external customers; monitor profitability and quality of submissions; and be aware of underwriting and/or product changes.
  • Review and develop a strong knowledge of: policy coverages, broker relationships, underwriting and team guidelines, processes and procedures and business strategy/organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.
