About The Position

Sompo has a unique opportunity for an Underwriting Technician on our Primary Retail Casualty Underwriting Support team. This role is responsible for providing technical support to the Underwriter by assisting in evaluating the risk and the development and growth of the portfolio for Auto, General Liability and Workers Compensation business. Responsibilities may include account management, exposure rating, preparation and delivery of quotes, binders, policies, endorsements and service requests to both internal staff and external distribution partners within specific performance standards. This role also performs services including problem solving or research projects requiring insurance and procedural knowledge.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2 years of experience as a technical/underwriting assistant with similar duties, specifically in insurance preferred
  • Knowledge of and willingness to work as a team, supporting internal and external customers
  • Ability and willingness to learn and understand terminology, coverages and appetite for specific industry groups and customers
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities as well as ability to multi-task while demonstrating attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Assists underwriters with reviewing submissions, drafting quotes, binders, policies, and endorsements maintaining a field service reputation that is recognized as superior in the industry
  • Codes, bills, registers, processes, and distributes insurance invoices, binders, policies, and endorsement within processing standards established by leadership
  • Contacts external distribution partners for any required or outstanding underwriting information; pre or post binding as needed to underwrite and complete file documentation
  • Provides support for file audits by maintaining files and conducting file reviews, QA/QC as needed
  • Reviews and resolves premium discrepancies
  • Monitors the in-office underwriting workflow to meet service level agreements as determined by leadership as well as perform special projects as needed
