About The Position

The Underwriting Team Manager serves as a team lead within SteadPoint Insurance Group’s Underwriting department and works closely with the Director of Underwriting to develop and apply underwriting policies and procedures. The role requires an in-depth understanding of SteadPoint’s strategy and business appetite, and uses available resources to make individual and portfolio risk decisions. The manager is responsible for profitable growth of the company’s book of business through application of underwriting policies and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree.
10+ years of property/casualty underwriting experience.

Nice To Haves

CPCU designation strongly desired.

Responsibilities

Develop producer relationships to build pipeline and agency intelligence and drive performance to meet and exceed results.
Manage a book of business by analyzing the portfolio, identifying opportunities for improved growth, profit, and diversification, and executing marketing plans to increase market share with assigned agencies.
Stay current on state and territory issues, regulations, and trends.
Evaluate businesses applying for insurance by identifying and assessing risks, determining policy terms and conditions, presenting proposals to agents or brokers, and negotiating through the sale.
Guide and mentor underwriters in technical and professional skills.
Act as a referral resource for risks within the manager’s authority.
Review underwriting files for proficiency and throughout the underwriting process.
Participate in continuous improvement through department meetings, suggestions, following procedures and work principles, problem-solving activities, and other team-supporting methods.
