About The Position

Reporting to the Manager, Underwriting Programs, the Underwriting Quality Analyst is responsible for conducting underwriting quality reviews across all classes of property and casualty business. The role focuses on identifying underwriting trends, gaps, and potential risk exposures, while supporting the development of best practices, guidelines, and solutions that contribute to long-term portfolio health and profitability. Working closely with internal teams, member companies, industry partners, and associations, the Underwriting Quality Analyst builds strong relationships to support consistent underwriting practices and shared learning across the mutual community. The role involves a mix of analytical review, reporting, collaboration, and knowledge sharing, with infrequent travel to member sites for on-site reviews, meetings, or training sessions. This position offers a hybrid work environment, with a primary corporate office in Cambridge and access to a satellite office in Toronto.

Requirements

  • College diploma required, with a focus in insurance, risk management, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in property and casualty underwriting, underwriting support, or a related insurance role
  • Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk selection, policy documentation, and loss drivers across P&C lines
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, evaluate underwriting practices, and translate findings into clear, actionable insights
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to varied audiences
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple reviews, priorities, and deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Conduct underwriting quality audits focused on specific underwriting risk criteria, identifying trends, gaps, and areas of potential exposure
  • Analyze portfolio performance by evaluating exposures written and loss experience to support underwriting quality and risk awareness
  • Review underwriting practices through the assessment of resource materials and individual policies to identify omissions, inconsistencies, and compliance issues
  • Capture and document audit findings in a consistent, usable format to support reporting, analysis, and decision-making
  • Assess deficiencies identified through audits and contribute to the development of practical solutions that address underwriting risk and promote best practices
  • Support the preparation and delivery of workshops, seminars, and presentations to share insights, findings, and best practices with member companies and internal stakeholders
