About The Position

Society Insurance is seeking an Underwriting Process & Technology Intern for the summer of 2027. This position supports underwriting operational and continuous improvement initiatives by assisting with business process analysis, requirements gathering and documentation, system testing activities, operational data analysis, and cross-functional projects - while gaining exposure to underwriting processes, technology solutions, and business operations to enhance underwriting effectiveness and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience organizing information, analyzing data, or documenting processes through coursework, employment, or projects.
  • Willingness to learn technical skills such as SQL, process mapping, testing, and system configuration.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior office experience highly desirable.
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or related field highly desirable.
  • Interest in commercial underwriting, business processes, data, technology, and problem solving, with a curiosity for how business needs are translated into operational and technology solutions highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Builds and maintains underwriting rule, workflow, question, and reference data inventories.
  • Converts approved requirements into structured test scenarios and executes supervised testing.
  • Validates expected results, documents defects clearly, and supports retesting.
  • Analyzes sanitized operational data to identify patterns, exceptions, or process friction.
  • Creates and improves process maps, decision records, job aids, and technical documentation.
  • Reviews configuration and documentation for completeness, consistency, and traceability.
  • Supports low-risk reference data or configuration changes under direct review.
  • Presents findings, recommendations, and completed deliverables.
  • Independently owns task-level decisions within an assigned and clearly defined scope.
  • Makes recommendations within an assigned scope and supports them with relevant evidence and documented assumptions.
  • Escalates uncertainty, production risk, and scope changes before proceeding.
  • Shadows business users across various lines of business to understand underwriting processes and technologies used to support them.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to gather insights and contribute to project deliverables.
