About The Position

biBerk, a Berkshire Hathaway company, is rapidly expanding and seeking an Underwriting Associate for their Commercial Underwriting Unit. This entry-level position offers the chance to learn risk evaluation for various small business policies including Workers’ Compensation, Business Owners’, Commercial Auto, Professional Liability, and Umbrella. It's an excellent starting point for a career in commercial insurance. The role operates on a hybrid schedule, requiring Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the Omaha, Nebraska office, with working hours from 8 AM to 4:30 PM CST.

Requirements

  • Strong investigative skills
  • Ability to utilize the internet as a research tool
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced team environment
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Adaptability in a constantly changing environment, including changes to technology, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory conditions
  • Bachelor’s degree + strong score on the Wonderlic test, a cognitive abilities assessment used to measure the cognitive ability and problem-solving aptitude of prospective employees

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in Underwriting a plus, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Utilize company underwriting criteria to evaluate risks for various lines of business
  • Perform independent verification of insured's operations
  • Review and process change requests on in-force policies
  • Evaluate in-force policies at renewal
  • Participate in Underwriting Training for new products, directives, and processes
  • Participate in projects as assigned
