About The Position

The Underwriting Associate supports the development and execution of auto protection products by applying underwriting guidelines and rating logic, evaluating risk submissions, and drafting pricing proposals that are designed to drive profitable growth and meet client needs. This role is responsible for interpreting eligibility criteria, handling contract and pricing exceptions, and documenting decisions in a clear, defensible manner to support audit and regulatory requirements. The position partners cross-functionally with account representatives, actuarial, and implementation teams to operationalize underwriting decisions. In addition, the Underwriting Associate monitors trends in underwriting performance and recommends adjustments to pricing to maintain portfolio profitability. The role requires strong analytical and technical skills, including proficiency in data tools and clear written communication, to deliver concise, stakeholder-ready insights and maintain high standards of operational rigor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Risk Management or Mathematics
  • At least 2 years overall professional experience
  • Proficiency in SQL + Excel
  • Clear written communication skills for concise decision summaries and stakeholder-ready updates

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Python is preferred, but not required
  • Power BI familiarity and ability to document data logic is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support underwriting for auto protection products by applying eligibility/rating guidance, handling exceptions, documenting decisions for audit/regulatory needs, and partnering with account reps/product config/actuarial using strong communication, data, and reporting skills.
  • Interpret underwriting guidelines and rate/rule logic; document rationale consistently.
  • Review contract/terms, determine appropriate billed vs. system cost outcomes, log exceptions, and communicate clear approve/decline decisions.
  • Follow defined procedures, maintain clean audit trails, and handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Partner effectively with account reps, implementation/config teams, and stakeholders to operationalize underwriting decisions.
  • Understand the importance of defensible documentation and compliance-minded decisioning.
  • Monitor trends in underwriting performance and recommend adjustments to pricing to maintain portfolio profitability.
