This position is eligible to work from home anywhere in the United States. As a Large Account Underwriting Associate, you'll help drive profitable growth by supporting the underwriting of complex commercial accounts, analyzing risks, and delivering exceptional service to agents and brokers. Working closely with underwriters and business partners, you'll contribute to strategic account decisions, strengthen agency relationships, and help position EMC's Large Account portfolio for long-term success.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • One year of insurance industry experience or related experience
  • Attention to detail and accurate data entry skills
  • Good personal computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft products
  • General knowledge of insurance terminology
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to work in a team setting as well as independently
  • Occasional travel; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if driving

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting large commercial accounts, including $500K+ premium accounts, loss-sensitive programs, and complex risk exposures, strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree may be considered in lieu of the insurance industry experience requirement

Responsibilities

  • Leads the renewal preparation process for aligned underwriters across an assigned portfolio, coordinating each account for efficient underwriting review with a focus on long-term profitability, retention and achievement of company pricing objectives.
  • Conducts evaluation of each account’s risk profile to assess renewal eligibility in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
  • Proactively identifies items outside of underwriting authority and prepares analysis to support the approval process.
  • Ensures submission completeness, validates SIC classification, reviews and organizes loss runs.
  • In coordination with the underwriter, prepares submissions for rating and provides instructions to the rating team.
  • Receives and triages new business submissions, preparing each opportunity for underwriter review.
  • Applies underwriter-directed pricing modifications and assembles proposal material for underwriter review and approval prior to release to the agent or broker.
  • Develops and strengthens relationships with agents and brokers that supports renewal retention and new business growth.
  • Addresses agent inquires and resolves issues related to endorsements and renewals, partnering with internal teams to deliver solutions aligned with both carrier, client and agency needs.
  • Reviews and approves endorsements within established authority and defined guidelines, providing timely and accurate quotes to agents.
  • Evaluates the risk implications of proposed policy changes by analyzing coverage structure, loss experience, and claims history to assess overall policy impact.
  • Reviews and approves reinstatement and cancellations within authority and assists agents with policy-related and billing inquiries in partnership with internal teams.
  • Provides operational and underwriting support to the department.
  • Partners with underwriters and territory managers to deepen understanding of EMC risk appetite, underwriting tools, resources and systems.
