About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Underwriter Assistant to support our underwriting team in evaluating, quoting, and servicing risks within the marine insurance sector. The role plays a critical analytical function in advancing the underwriting process for a range of marine-related accounts, including marinas, boat dealers, yacht clubs and related businesses.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in commercial insurance, preferably with marine or specialty lines exposure.
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to synthesize technical underwriting data.
  • Professional communication skills, both written and verbal, for internal collaboration and broker interaction.
  • High level of integrity and the ability to exercise judgment with respect to matters of significance, including coverage determinations, risk evaluation, and broker communications, in a fast-paced environment with limited direct supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and experience with underwriting platforms or policy systems.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience

  • Insurance designations a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, review, and analyze underwriting data such as loss runs, financial statements, vessel inventories, marina layouts, and contractor experience profiles.
  • Serve as a contact for brokers and agents with servicing of accounts
  • Exercise discretion in structuring tailored coverage solutions, selecting appropriate endorsements, and developing pricing recommendations based on independent evaluation of risk characteristics and exposures.
  • Prepare billing and issue policies, endorsements, and correspondence, applying independent judgment to ensure accuracy of terms, conditions, and coverage language relative to the bound risk.
  • Maintain accurate records in underwriting and policy administration systems, ensuring data integrity for compliance and reporting purposes.
  • Contribute subject-matter expertise and independent analysis to projects aimed at improving marine underwriting workflows, automation tools, and service delivery; may lead discrete project workstreams at the direction of the CUO.
