About The Position

We are searching for an Underwriting Assistant, Marine to join our team at Westland Insurance Group Ltd. This is a hybrid position based out of our Surrey, BC office, but we are also open to remote candidates located elsewhere in British Columbia. In this role, you will support our Underwriting team by providing administrative and technical expertise while developing your underwriting knowledge and building strong relationships with brokers and internal partners. Your work will help ensure the efficient delivery of marine insurance solutions and exceptional service. As an Underwriting Assistant, Marine, you will play an important role in supporting the underwriting process while developing the technical knowledge and skills needed for a rewarding career in insurance. You will work alongside experienced underwriters, gaining hands-on exposure to marine insurance while helping deliver timely, accurate service to our broker partners.

Requirements

  • Previous administrative, customer service, or insurance experience
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Communicate effectively and enjoy building positive relationships with others
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and comfortable learning new systems
  • Eager to build a career in underwriting and insurance

Nice To Haves

  • Marine insurance or marine industry experience is an asset, but not required
  • Working toward, or interested in pursuing, a CAIB or CIP designation

Responsibilities

  • Support Underwriters with policy administration, document management, and underwriting activities
  • Process new business, renewals, endorsements, cancellations, and policy documentation accurately and efficiently
  • Maintain client, vessel, and policy records while ensuring applications and supporting documentation are complete
  • Monitor outstanding requirements and follow up with brokers and internal stakeholders to provide timely service
  • Work with Adobe/Foxit for PDF’s: creating & editing documents/templates, importing/exporting data, etc
  • Learn marine underwriting guidelines, insurance terminology, and risk assessment fundamentals while developing your underwriting expertise
  • Build strong relationships with brokers and internal teams while contributing to a collaborative, service-focused environment
