About The Position

As an Underwriting Assistant supporting Ledgebrook's Inland Marine team, you'll play a key role in helping our underwriters efficiently quote, issue, and manage policies across a nationwide book of business. You'll work closely with AAIS forms and manuscript wordings, ensuring every policy is processed accurately and on time. This is a fully remote, nationwide position reporting to Thomas Klingner. You'll be the operational backbone of the underwriting team, keeping submissions, endorsements, and renewals moving smoothly while giving underwriters the support they need to focus on risk selection and relationship management.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as an Underwriting Assistant, working with Inland Marine coverages.
  • Hands-on experience working with AAIS forms and the AAIS forms library.
  • Solid understanding of policy issuance, endorsement processing, and the renewal lifecycle.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fully remote, nationwide role.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, with comfort learning new underwriting and policy administration systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence corresponding directly with agents and brokers.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience specifically underwriting or supporting contractors equipment and builders risk.
  • Familiarity with policy administration and rating systems used in commercial P&C.
  • Progress toward or attainment of an insurance industry designation (e.g., AU, INS, CPCU).
  • A genuine curiosity about InsurTech or technology-driven insurance businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Process Policies & Endorsements: Prepare, issue, and process new business submissions, renewals, and endorsements for inland marine accounts, primarily using AAIS forms.
  • Support the Underwriting Team: Assist underwriters with quoting, rating, and binding coverage, gathering the information needed to move submissions forward quickly.
  • Maintain Forms & Documentation: Select and apply the correct AAIS forms and manuscript endorsements for each risk, keeping policy files complete and audit-ready.
  • Manage Renewals: Track renewal timelines, request updated exposure information, and ensure timely turnaround on renewal policies.
  • Coordinate with Agents & Brokers: Serve as a point of contact for policy status updates, outstanding requirements, and documentation requests.
  • Ensure Quality & Compliance: Review submissions and issued policies for accuracy and completeness, ensuring compliance with state filings and forms requirements.
  • Maintain System Records: Keep policy and underwriting files accurate and up to date in Ledgebrook's policy administration system.
  • Support Special Projects: Assist Thomas Klingner and the Inland Marine team with process improvements and other initiatives as needed.
