About The Position

Hudson is seeking an Underwriter to join its team. This role is responsible for underwriting new and renewal wholesale E&S general liability business, with a focus on building and managing a profitable book of business within company underwriting guidelines. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of underwriting experience, including a background in excess and surplus lines and the wholesale distribution channel. This position requires strong technical underwriting skills, sound judgment, and the ability to develop and maintain productive broker relationships.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of commercial underwriting experience required.
  • E&S underwriting experience required.
  • Wholesale E&S market experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience underwriting general liability business required.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to assess risk and price business appropriately.
  • Solid understanding of policy language, coverage analysis, and endorsement usage.
  • Effective relationship-building and marketing skills with brokers and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new and renewal wholesale E&S general liability business in accordance with company guidelines, authority, and profitability objectives.
  • Evaluate risk submissions, including review of applications, loss runs, underwriting information, and other supporting documentation.
  • Analyze exposures and make sound underwriting decisions based on risk quality, pricing adequacy, and policy structure.
  • Determine appropriate terms, conditions, limits, pricing, and endorsements for individual accounts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers and production partners to support new business development and retention.
  • Identify and pursue profitable growth opportunities within the assigned territory and class appetite.
  • Monitor market conditions, competitor activity, and industry trends to support underwriting strategy and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with internal business partners, including claims, actuarial, legal, and operations, as needed.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and timely file management throughout the underwriting process.
  • Contribute to the achievement of premium, retention, and profitability goals for the book of business.
