About The Position

The Underwriter evaluates and determines the eligibility of loan applications which includes analyzing and verifying documentation within the application, evaluating risk, and making loan eligibility decisions. A successful Underwriter should be able to exercise sound judgement based on detailed analysis and ensure that all documentation is in compliance with relevant regulations/guidelines. The Underwriter reports to the Underwriting Manager. The Underwriter will work closely with loan processors and/or loan originator in providing guidance on what documents a necessary to complete the loan review.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of four years’ recent experience underwriting new originations.
  • Strong interpretive reasoning and problem-solving ability and excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Self-disciplined, self-motivated, and self-reliant.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and work with various Mortgage applications and software.
  • Ability to relate and communicate in a professional manner with all levels of management as well as internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform constantly changing multiple tasks in a very fast paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • College degree preferred
  • FHA certification preferred
  • Experience with Encompass preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review and verify loan application and supporting documents to investor/agency guidelines.
  • Make credit decisions (approved, suspended or denied), clear conditions, review, and complete change requests.
  • Analyzing risk and requesting additional information, as necessary
  • Review and calculate income.
  • Review appraisals to ensure investor / agency acceptability.
  • Maintain knowledge of underwriting guidelines and loan programs.
  • Complete assigned loan reviews within required timeframe.
  • Complete computer data entry as needed in Loan operating system.
  • Complete Underwriting Certifications, as necessary
  • Documenting and effectively communicating reasons for approval, suspense and/or denied loans.
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required.
  • Incumbent will be responsible for meeting RoundPoint’s commitment to quality.
