About The Position

Within authorized authority, and in accordance with sound underwriting practices as set out in policy and procedure, examines, evaluates, and authorizes or recommends approval or denial of borrower's applications for credit or increase of lines of credit, or credit card accounts in a timely manner. The Loan Quality Officer position is also responsible for post-decision activities, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of documentation, conducting thorough research on potential fraud applications, and engaging in outbound calling when necessary.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Thorough understanding of Neighborhood Credit Union lending policies, federal and state lending regulations.
  • Knowledge of auto buying process and all consumer loan related functions.
  • Knowledge of Credit Union products and services, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of credit union computer software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Comprehensive understanding of direct lending procedures.
  • At least three years of consumer lending experience.
  • Excellent communication and public relations skills.
  • Ability to analyze accounts.
  • Ability to express ideas effectively and speak clearly.
  • Ability to follow instructions and respond to management directions.
  • Ability to assess multiple task or issues which are competing for limited amount of time or resources and effectively determine order in which each will be addressed.
  • Ability to set priorities and to track both complete and incomplete activities.
  • Attentive to detail.
  • Well organized.
  • Ability to assist others.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes applicant financial status, credit and collateral to determine feasibility of granting loans.
  • Submits employee loans, loans exceeding approval limit, marginal loans, etc. to Loan Quality Manager for decision.
  • Collects and reviews documentation from applicants after decision has been made by underwriting.
  • Analyzes and reviews documentation related to consumer loan applications with an emphasis on accuracy, legitimacy, and completeness of required documentation.
  • Meets set performance requirements including loan quality, outbound call volume, approval ratios.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of current fraud trends, leveraging internal tools and resources to evaluate incoming consumer loan applications for potential fraud.
  • Works with members, staff, and external partners to obtain documentation needed for loan.
  • Speaks effectively and professionally with members to streamline processes.
  • Performs other functions that might be needed from time to assist others in completing tasks.
  • Takes part in peer mentoring and coaching activities designed to maximize performance.
  • Assists other departments with systems testing.
  • Collaborates with other departments and or institutions to corroborate or collect information related to consumer lending.
  • Communicates well with loan officers and other relevant departments to resolve issues.
  • Maintains understanding of loan policy, loan products and services.
  • Follows all policies and procedures regulated by the credit union as well as governmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
