About The Position

Berkley Corporation, Key Risk focuses on reducing workers' compensation exposures and achieving industry-leading results through products and services distributed via appointed insurance agents and brokers. The company is seeking an enthusiastic individual for an Underwriter Trainee position. The training program will involve shadowing territory underwriting managers, visiting agents to observe interactions, and rotation assignments with various departments including risk management, claims, compliance, and corporate marketing to foster an understanding of inter-departmental collaboration and service delivery for clients and Key Risk.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Risk Management & Insurance, Finance, Economics, or Mathematics
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Strong negotiation skills
• Curiosity and desire to learn and grow professionally.
• Committed to highest standards of ethical behavior, honesty and integrity
• Commitment to increasing knowledge of workers compensation

Responsibilities

• Frequent interaction with agents, policyholders, and insurance rating organizations as necessary, to give and receive information, to market business, and to make presentations to promote company business and image.
• Frequent interaction with Client Service Executives, Risk Management Specialists, Regional Vice Presidents, IT staff, Policyholder Services Representatives, Premium Auditors, other Underwriters and functional areas as needed to give and receive information or to provide instruction and solve problems.
• Actively involved in development, such as pursuit of professional designations.
• Successful completion of training plan.
