About The Position

Sompo has a unique opportunity for an Underwriter in our Property team. Our Commercial Specialty Property Canada team offers property coverage to commercial accounts with a focus on midsize to large domestic and Canadian domiciled multinational companies with a proactive approach to risk management. We pride ourselves on delivering superior risk solutions to our insureds, backed by Sompo’s exceptional financial strength. This position will be based out of our Toronto, ON office. Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or relevant work experience.
• 3-5 years of experience in property underwriting in the Canadian market.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
• Knowledge of Canadian insurance regulations and market trends.
• Ability to travel as required

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and underwrite property insurance risks, including conducting risk assessments, analyzing data, reviewing applications, and determining coverage and pricing.
• Collaborate and communicate, both in writing and verbally, with brokers and clients to gather information, clarify requirements, and negotiate terms and conditions.
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients, brokers, and other stakeholders to drive new business opportunities and build a strong book of business.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as claims, risk engineering, and legal, to assess and manage risks, resolve issues, and optimize business outcomes.
• Provide excellent customer service by promptly responding to inquiries, addressing concerns, and resolving issues in a professional and timely manner.
• Participate in training, professional development, and knowledge-sharing activities to stay updated with industry best practices and enhance underwriting skills.
