About The Position

The primary focus of this role is underwriting and managing an assigned portfolio of renewal and new business accounts while contributing to profitable growth across the Ontario region. The successful candidate will work closely with brokers to support Liberty Mutual Canada’s presence across multiple Financial and Professional Services (FPS) product lines, with a primary focus on Professional Liability (Errors & Omissions). This role requires sound underwriting judgment, strong relationship management skills, and a collaborative approach to delivering profitable underwriting results.

Requirements

  • University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant underwriting experience within commercial insurance, preferably Financial & Professional Services lines.
  • Working knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze financial statements and assess risk exposures.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective business, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain broker relationships.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Growth mindset with the ability to learn, adapt, and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a changing business environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Progress toward professional insurance designations (CIP, FCIP, CRM, etc.) is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and manage a portfolio of Professional Liability (E&O) business, including Architects & Engineers E&O, Contractors Professional Liability, and Miscellaneous E&O.
  • Review and evaluate risks, determine appropriate coverage terms, and negotiate pricing and policy conditions within underwriting authority.
  • Support achievement of rate, retention, and growth objectives through disciplined underwriting practices.
  • Apply underwriting guidelines, product knowledge, and analytical skills to assess risk quality and profitability.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with brokers and clients through regular communication and marketing activities.
  • Develop new business opportunities and contribute to the growth of the Professional Liability portfolio.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including product leaders, claims, and underwriting colleagues, to deliver effective solutions for brokers and clients.
  • Identify cross-sell opportunities across Liberty Mutual Canada's business lines.
  • Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, audit standards, and governance requirements.
  • Participate in industry events, training programs, and ongoing professional development activities.
  • Assist with reporting, presentations, special projects, and other related duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
