Underwriter - Large Contract Surety
About The Position
Zurich North America is seeking an Underwriter to join their large account contract surety team. This role is designed for individuals with financial, credit, accounting, analytical, and customer focus skills. The position offers autonomy and the opportunity to work with Fortune 500 companies, leveraging global experience and a supportive environment. This is a technical and market-facing role requiring experience in Surety lines of business. The role involves production and underwriting of new and renewal business, managing a large book of accounts, internal and external marketing, adherence to underwriting guidelines, and developing agency/broker relationships. The position requires approximately 20-25% travel and is open to talent located in AL, AR, FL, GA, LA, KY, NC, MO, MS, OK, SC, TN, TX, with remote work options available.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 1 or more years of experience in the Insurance, Market Facing area, Finance, Accounting, OR Banking experience.
- OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
- Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment
- Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines
Nice To Haves
- Bachelors Degree with 2 or more years experience in the surety underwriting area
- Strong negotiation skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Microsoft Office skills
Responsibilities
- Production and underwriting of new and renewal Surety business
- Managing of a large book of prominent accounts
- Internal marketing and production within Zurich North America in support of our cross-sell efforts
- Execution of the external marketing strategy
- Adherence to underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws, regulations, and the Zurich Way of underwriting
- Establish new as well as develop existing agency and broker relationships
- Working within limits and authorities on assignments of varying degrees of complexity
