About The Position

The Underwriter III is responsible for evaluating and approving residential mortgage loans in accordance with company, investor, and regulatory guidelines, ensuring sound credit decisions, timely turnaround, and high-quality loan production. Some travel may be required. Lendistry Home Loans is a subsidiary of B.S.D. Capital, Inc. We created Lendistry Home Loans to help undercapitalized families and communities access fair, responsible mortgages when purchasing and/or refinancing property. Lendistry Home Loans offers residential loans between $25,000 - $5,000,000. Lendistry Home Loans will be a direct lender but might broker on occasion based on economic and market conditions.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience underwriting Conventional, FHA, and VA mortgage loans.
  • Active and current FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) and SAR certification required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong experience underwriting purchase transactions preferred.
  • 6+ years of overall mortgage industry experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite Conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loan products in accordance with company, investor, and industry guidelines, maintaining a standard 24–48 hour turnaround time.
  • Analyze borrower credit profiles and issue sound credit decisions through review of financial statements, credit reports, and key ratios including DTI and LTV.
  • Evaluate and assess overall loan risk by reviewing property documentation, including purchase contracts, escrow instructions, and preliminary title reports.
  • Assign, review, and clear appropriate loan conditions to ensure accuracy, completeness, consistency, and regulatory compliance, identifying and escalating documentation red flags as needed.
  • Assist in the restructuring of loan files to meet applicable lending and agency guidelines.
  • Research and interpret agency and investor guidelines to support underwriting decisions and condition sign-offs.
  • Collaborate with the Processing Department to resolve complex or problematic files and expedite underwriting submissions.
  • Clearly communicate underwriting decisions and rationale to internal stakeholders, management, and auditors.
  • Request, organize, and review loan documentation, independently submitting complete files to underwriting on a monthly basis.
  • Utilize automated underwriting systems including Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector (LP) to support credit decisions.
  • Perform other duties assigned to support the efficient operation of the entire department and that will help to make Lendistry the best place to work!
