About The Position

BrokerLink is seeking an Underwriter II, Commercial Lines, to join their growing team. This role involves assessing, evaluating, and negotiating moderate to complex risks, applying effective pricing and underwriting strategies in accordance with company guidelines and personal underwriting authority limits. The underwriter will quote, negotiate, sell, and authorize the acceptance of new business, renewals, and endorsements to develop and retain profitable business. Responsibilities also include participating in broker visits, insurance industry functions, and marketing events to support broker relationship development, arranging reinsurance when required, and answering inquiries. The role requires using the computer system for policy inquiry, electronic filing, underwriting, and rating transactions, making recommendations for departmental improvements, and fostering cooperative broker relationships to identify and develop sales opportunities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Completion of CIP designation (or progress towards) is an asset
  • Strong track record of developing, mentoring and coaching teammates
  • Can develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers
  • Great communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Strong negotiating skills and business savvy
  • Strong analytical and technical experience
  • Initiative and can work under pressure
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and computer tools
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada

Responsibilities

  • Assess, evaluate and negotiate on moderate to complex risks.
  • Apply effective pricing and underwriting strategies in accordance with the company guidelines and personal underwriting authority limits.
  • Within your level of authority, quote, negotiate, sell, and authorize the acceptance of moderate to complex new business, renewals, and endorsements to develop and retain profitable business according to the business plan established for the department.
  • Participate in broker visits, insurance industry functions and marketing events in support of broker relationship development.
  • Arrange reinsurance if and when required.
  • Answer inquiries, develop and monitor business with brokers through visits, discussions, and correspondence.
  • Use the computer system for policy inquiry, electronic filing, underwriting and rating transactions.
  • Make recommendations to improve the department and increase its efficiency.
  • Foster cooperative broker relationships to identify and develop sales opportunities.
