About The Position

AIG is hiring an Underwriter I for its Specialty Lines–Marine team. The role supports underwriting operations by reviewing strategic accounts, maintaining underwriting discipline, contributing to profit-center initiatives and process improvements, and providing service to brokers and clients. The underwriter also contributes to developing less experienced staff and participates in special underwriting projects. AIG emphasizes in-person collaboration, with team members primarily working in the office.

Requirements

• Understanding of insurance and associated risks, including fundamentals of loss trends, loss triangles, and ratemaking.
• Detail-oriented, with analytical and critical-thinking skills, sound decision-making within level of authority, and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment, adapt to ambiguity and a fast pace, and prioritize multiple tasks.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, collaboration skills, and ability to build trust with a wide range of colleagues and clients.
• Financial understanding, appetite for learning about the industry, negotiating ability, and focus on profitable business.
• At least 1 year of relevant professional experience.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with a commercial insurance company, agency, or brokerage.
• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.

Responsibilities

• Deliver strategic account reviews and prepare associated file documentation.
• Adhere to underwriting guidelines and discipline.
• Assist management with implementing profit-center strategic initiatives and provide technical support on other projects.
• Assist the regional manager and product leaders in developing and establishing processes and procedures to improve efficiency.
• Contribute to the development of less experienced staff.
• Participate in special underwriting projects as needed.
• Provide superior customer service to internal and external brokers and clients.
