About The Position

The Underwriter I will be a contributing member of the Corporate Credit Underwriting team and will develop foundational knowledge across a variety of industries and loan structures. This individual will begin building a diversified underwriting background with exposure to C&I, ABL, and Specialized Industries. The Underwriter I is responsible for supporting the underwriting process while learning to ensure credit quality and adherence with Third Coast Bank’s lending policy. The Underwriter will collaborate with all involved parties to support transactions and ensure deliverables meet client expectations. This role is developmental in nature and designed to build the technical and analytical capabilities required for progression within the underwriting function.

Requirements

  • Must be able to spread, analyze, and interpret financial statements
  • Must be able to prepare stress projection models and analyze relevant financial and covenant ratios
  • Must be able to identify and address strengths and weaknesses and risk and mitigants embedded in loan requests
  • Must be able to prepare credit memos/reports as part of the credit approval process
  • Must develop proficient knowledge of credit policy, banking regulations, and loan documentation issues is required
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be able to verbally communicate effectively one-to-one and in groups
  • Must be able to write clearly and effectively
  • Must be able to develop and maintain cohesive, cooperative working relationship with co-workers
  • Must have good personal organization and time management skills
  • Must understand and work effectively within the credit culture of the company
  • Must allocate time effectively and independently prioritize workload to meet timelines
  • Good mathematics, reading comprehension and writing skills
  • Participate in all required compliance training, including Bank Secrecy Act/anti-money laundering training, as well as internal and external training programs, online training, meetings, and seminars/conferences, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Works under guidance of senior credit officers and senior portfolio managers to prepare credit packages and loan offerings for transactions of low to moderate complexity or in support of portfolio management activities
  • Assists in performing credit analysis and risk assessment on credit relationships in a timely and efficient manner
  • Develops understanding of credit structuring concepts and contributes to recommendations with oversight
  • Manages multiple tasks to meet internal and customer deadlines while maintaining attention to credit quality
  • Builds foundational knowledge through training, feedback, and hands-on underwriting experience
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with deal teams
  • May attend internal meetings and select client calls alongside senior team members to develop understanding of lending relationships and transaction structuring
  • Demonstrates strong learning agility and growing ownership of responsibilities
