About The Position

ASRC Federal Facilities Logistics, LLC, a subsidiary of ASRC Federal, is seeking an Underground Utility Mechanic to support our Prime NASA program at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. Applicant shall be responsible for the daily operations, preventative maintenance, and trouble call repairs to the Center’s Underground Utility Systems including all high-pressure steam and condensate lines, all steam sewer and storm water manholes, sanitary sewer and storm water lines, and the domestic water system including Fire Hydrants.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years' as a Journeyman in HVAC/R, Plumbing, or Industrial Maintenance
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in underground utility maintenance performing the following:
  • Directing and overseeing excavation requirements to expose utility systems for repair and or replacement.
  • Repairing or replacing damaged utility to reestablish operability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical labor work as required, including shoveling, pick and bar to excavate, backfill holes and trenches; installs shoring and bracing in holes and trenches as needed.
  • Ensure proper operation of systems and act upon any condition that requires immediate action.
  • Maintain and repair a variety of underground pipelines and related facilities equipment (reading and interpreting distribution maps, pipeline drawings, specifications, chlorinating the distribution system and performing hydrant flow tests).
  • Conduct necessary tests, including standard industry approved troubleshooting methods to determine malfunctions and/or causes of breakdowns of all assigned equipment.
  • Perform on call, after-hours, and preventive maintenance duties as necessary.
  • Work outdoors under varying climatic conditions.
  • Perform all work in a safe manner in accordance with safety practices and procedures.
  • Use a variety of hand tools, portable power tools, and standard measuring instruments.
  • Coordinate with other trade and warehouse personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, parts assemblies, and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task.
  • Operate motor vehicles and/or other equipment.
  • Assist and support other departments, staff and/or trade groups as needed or directed.
  • Adhere to the established safety and personnel policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform other related work as required or assigned.
  • Timely and cost-effective performance of duties.
  • Adherence to all safety, environmental and health rules, and regulations.
  • Harmoniously working with other employees and customers.
  • Working with Supervisors and Operators to outline work to be done, after which incumbent is expected to work independently.
