About The Position

KLS Earthworks & Environmental is seeking an experienced Underground Supervisor to join their Calgary-based team. This role is responsible for leading crews in the safe and efficient installation of underground infrastructure while keeping projects moving, maintaining quality, and working closely with Operations Superintendents and project management. Requirements

  • 5-10 years’ experience as an Underground Foreman/Supervisor or Lead Hand in Underground Utility construction.
  • Strong experience with underground utility installation, including water, sanitary, and storm systems.
  • Good understanding of City of Calgary underground utility specifications.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and understand grades and elevations.
  • Strong knowledge of excavation, trenching, bedding, backfill, compaction, and underground construction practices.
  • Proven ability to lead crews and organize work effectively.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Safety-focused with the ability to lead by example.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and meet the physical demands of civil construction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise underground crews on civil construction projects.
  • Coordinate daily activities, manpower, equipment, and materials.
  • Oversee installation of water, sanitary, storm, and related underground utilities.
  • Read and interpret drawings, grades, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Plan daily work and communicate priorities and expectations to the crew.
  • Ensure installations meet project specifications, required elevations, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with operators, labourers, subcontractors, inspectors, and other site personnel.
  • Identify potential issues in the field and work with the project team to find practical solutions.
  • Monitor productivity and keep work progressing according to schedule.
  • Complete required daily documentation and communicate project progress to site supervision.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices and KLS safety requirements.
  • Mentor crew members and help build a productive, respectful team environment.
