The Underground Shift Supervisor reports to the Mine General Foreman. The primary role is to be responsible for the supervision, leadership, and direction of the Underground Mining Team within the Mining Services Department. This role involves coordinating daily management, control, and supervision of underground mining operations in accordance with MSHA regulations, ensuring miners understand and comply with mining plans, and communicating production strategies and business objectives to the team. The supervisor will liaise with geologists, surveyors, mining engineers, and contractors to ensure efficient coordination of mining activity, organize shift plans to meet production and cost targets, and maintain production status boards and relevant paperwork. A key aspect of the role is ensuring personnel are adequately trained and qualified, actively contributing to site safety policies, promoting safe work practices, and ensuring all incidents and accidents are reported, investigated, and reviewed. The supervisor is also responsible for developing a culture of high performance, providing feedback, creating succession plans, and working with Mine Trainers to ensure ongoing competency assessment and development. Regular inspections of working areas, equipment checks, and monitoring of equipment operation are required, along with maintaining accurate records of daily operations, downtime, and incidents. The role also involves preparing upgrade criteria for non-exempt job classifications, providing and monitoring training opportunities objectively, reviewing employee training requests, documenting readiness for tasks, maintaining training records, and participating in the review of training appeals.
