About The Position

Northern Star Resources Limited (NST) is seeking an experienced Underground Miner - Powder Crew member for their Pogo operation in Alaska. This role involves safely and efficiently preparing and loading explosives, maintaining loading equipment, and performing various mining tasks related to the Powder Crew. The position is on a rotational camp schedule and offers job security with an extended mine-life. The company is an ASX 100 gold producer with world-class projects in Australia and North America, and is the largest Australian gold producer and among the top 10 globally.

Requirements

  • Minimum three years experience as a miner in an underground setting
  • MUST have ATF clearance
  • Experience in both production and high-speed development powder
  • Experience in ANFO, Emulsion and IKON detonators
  • Basic mechanical knowledge
  • Good communication skills, including ability to read and speak English
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices
  • Must have good comprehension of safe operating procedures, safety rules, policies, emergency procedures, and MSHA requirements
  • Must pass a post offer physical and drug test, as well as a background check

Responsibilities

  • Safely & efficiently prepare and load explosives
  • Maintain loading equipment
  • Perform various mining tasks related to Powder Crew
  • Installation of services (utilities) and ventilation to all development and production headings
  • Installation of various underground infrastructure such as paste walls, paste pipe, vent doors, fan bulkheads etc.
  • Hanging of secondary ventilation fans
  • Carry out pre-starts when paste filling of stopes underground
  • Installation of cable bolts
  • Monitoring and controlling paste pours
  • Fabrication of pipe
  • Installation and monitoring of mine dewatering
  • Working as directed to minimize equipment down-time and maximize productivity
  • General laboring as required
  • General housekeeping of the work area
  • Ensuring that all tools and equipment are serviceable and safe
  • Communicate clearly and effectively on two-way radio
  • Ensure all safety related activities are undertaken in accordance with Company policy and MSHA requirements including Hazard ID's, pre-start checks, pre-start meetings, and incident reporting
  • Assist with fault finding and preventative maintenance
  • Assessing and monitoring of ground conditions
  • Conduct scaling in accordance with site requirements
  • Perform such other duties as directed by the Shift Supervisor
