Underground Mine Geotechnical Engineer
About The Position
This role is responsible for upholding Vault Minerals' best geotechnical practices within the underground mine. The engineer will monitor ground support compliance, develop and implement ground support standards, and ensure the Mine Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP) is up-to-date and adhered to. The position involves reviewing and interpreting geotechnical data to advise operations, assessing geotechnical strategies for ground stability, and designing safe and economical stope mining sequences. Additionally, the role requires updating geotechnical designs based on daily operational needs, coaching junior staff, and evaluating ground support material requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mining or Geological engineering with practical experience.
- Strong and proficiency in numerical modelling using Map3D and Rocscience software.
- Experience in using Deswik.CAD.
- Strong communication (written, listening, oral) and presentation skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and attention to detail.
- Ensure regulatory standards regarding safety and environmental requirements remain in compliance.
- Demonstrated experience working with others, good overall communication skills, both oral and written.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s Degree in Rock Mechanics with experience is considered an asset.
- Experience using underground ground control instrumentations would be an asset.
Responsibilities
- Understand LOM strategies and mining sequence, ensuring geotechnical best practices are upheld.
- Monitor ground support standard compliance QA/QC.
- Review, develop, and implement Ground support standards.
- Review and update the mine Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP).
- Ensure QA/QC programs comply with the GCMP.
- Review and interpret geotechnical data and advise operations on better practices.
- Assess geotechnical strategies for ground stability hazards to optimize safe ore recovery.
- Design, analyze, and recommend safe and economical stope mining sequences.
- Update geotechnical designs based on daily operational requirements.
- Coach and train junior and intermediate mining engineering staff.
- Evaluate ground support material requirements and inventory.
- Spearhead Rock Mechanics continuous improvement projects for the mine.
