About The Position

SMS Equipment is expanding its underground operations in Alaska and is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic with hands-on experience in the heavy equipment industry. This role involves supporting Komatsu underground equipment, prioritizing safety, assisting customers' fleets, and working directly with various underground heavy equipment and attachments. The position is classified as an Individual Contributor role, emphasizing customer focus, collaboration, and technical/functional expertise. Requirements

Minimum of 3 years of experience working with underground mining equipment.
Experience in underground equipment repairs and overhauls.
Troubleshooting experience with electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
Demonstrates a strong commitment to maintaining and promoting a safe work environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

New Miner Training (Underground) (40-Hour Training) is preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

Performing assemblies, preventative maintenance, repairs, and complete overhauls on underground heavy equipment and attachments.
Diagnosing faults or malfunctions using computerized or other testing equipment and providing recommendations on the extent of repairs.
Completing new equipment pre-delivery inspections, paperwork, and options installations.
Completing service reports, timecards, warranty claim documentation, procedure creation, and maintenance as required.
Defining work scope to be completed and creating a work schedule accordingly for yourself and/or other employees.
Travel and assignments in confined underground environments at customer locations.
