About The Position

We are currently seeking an Underground Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor to join our Underground Fixed Plant Maintenance Team in Voisey’s Bay, Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. Relocation to the Province of Newfoundland & Labrador will be required for this role. The role is a permanent on-site position, working a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off rotational schedule. As an Underground Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, you will be responsible for directing the day-to-day safe work of maintenance personnel and being the conduit between Operations, Planning, and work execution. Your experience and skills will create a work environment that motivates tradespeople to achieve world class performance within the underground mine facilities.

Requirements

  • An Interprovincial Red Seal and college diploma in a Mechanical trade is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an Underground Maintenance or Fixed Plant Maintenance environment.
  • Experience and detailed knowledge of fixed plant equipment maintenance and repair in a mining environment.
  • Experience and knowledge of open pit and underground mining operations.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Knowledge of cost and budget processes.
  • Knowledge of carrying out standard procedures.
  • Knowledge of professional discipline or related process and people issues.
  • Leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively supervise, prioritize and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and mitigate Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) risks.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure planned work is coordinated, and safely and effectively executed against the maintenance schedule.
  • Manage area zone maintenance in conjunction with operations to establish priorities and timelines.
  • Provide effective care, maintenance and utilization of assets.
  • Work collaboratively and cross functionally with colleagues, engineering, production, and services to achieve work objectives.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to the team, offering guidance during complex maintenance tasks and fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Cultivate a strong culture of safety by actively involving the team in safety programs and ensuring compliance with all policies and regulations.
  • Manage maintenance contractors, ensuring external teams meet Vale’s standards and effectively support maintenance objectives.
  • Promote effective teamwork and communication across all levels of the organization, ensuring team members possess the necessary skills and training for their roles.
