About The Position

The Underground Equipment Operator plays a critical role in the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery used in subterranean construction, mining, or utility projects. This position requires the operator to skillfully maneuver equipment such as loaders, drills, and excavators in confined underground environments to support excavation, material handling, and infrastructure installation. The operator must ensure all equipment is maintained and operated according to safety standards and project specifications to minimize risks and maximize productivity. Collaboration with site supervisors, engineers, and safety personnel is essential to coordinate tasks and respond promptly to any operational challenges. Ultimately, the role contributes significantly to the successful completion of underground projects by maintaining high standards of safety, precision, and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Valid heavy equipment operator certification or equivalent training.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience operating underground heavy machinery in construction, mining, or utility sectors.
  • Strong understanding of underground safety regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and project plans.
  • Physical ability to work in confined spaces and challenging underground environments.
  • Technical skills daily to operate complex machinery safely and efficiently within confined underground spaces.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude allows the operator to perform routine maintenance and quickly identify equipment issues to prevent downtime.
  • Effective communication skills are essential for coordinating with team members and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and project plans guides precise equipment operation aligned with project goals.
  • Problem-solving skills enable the operator to adapt to changing site conditions and maintain productivity under challenging circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Operate various types of underground heavy equipment including loaders, drills, and excavators to perform excavation, material transport, and site preparation tasks.
  • Conduct pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance checks to ensure equipment is in safe working condition.
  • Follow all safety protocols and regulatory requirements to maintain a secure working environment for all personnel on site.
  • Coordinate with team members and supervisors to execute project plans and adjust operations as needed based on site conditions.
  • Document equipment usage, maintenance activities, and any incidents or irregularities encountered during operation.
