About The Position

This advertisement covers Underground Development Miner I, II, III, and IV positions. The level offered will be based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. Reporting to the Supervisor, Underground Development, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

Requirements

  • Two - Seven (2-7) years of development mining experience with a demonstrated high level of proficiency in relevant tasks
  • Experience with Sandvik equipment is highly desirable.
  • Valid First Aid certificate and blasting ticket in a Canadian jurisdiction is required
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Strong safety mindset, excellent communication skills, and ability to follow instructions from supervisors.
  • High level of enthusiasm and a strong desire to learn new skills for team success and personal growth.
  • Working rights in Canada

  • Completion of Secondary School or equivalent considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Read and follow engineering layouts, prepare the face, and handle the scaling, bolting, screening, and installation of ground support systems for development rounds, slashes, and benches.
  • Safely and efficiently operate a wide range of underground mining equipment—including Jumbos, MacLean Bolters, ANFO loaders, scooptrams (6 yd, 8 yd, 10 yd), haul trucks (30 t and 51 t), boom trucks, tele-handlers, scissor lifts, and light vehicles (LVs)—in accordance with site standard operating procedures.
  • Complete thorough pre/post-operational inspections of all equipment, reporting deficiencies or damage to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Conduct post-blast inspections, accurately assess ground conditions, and strictly follow safety protocols when poor ground conditions are encountered.
  • Safely handle, transport, and load explosives for development rounds, ensuring all safety and blasting protocols are met.
  • Perform mucking out of development rounds and manage the efficient haulage and transportation of ore and waste.
  • Perform all tasks related to development mining and mine services installation, including assisting with underground backfilling and performing offsider or auxiliary tasks to support the crew.
  • Deliver required gear, tools, and equipment to active work fronts while managing stock levels and maintaining accurate inventory records at both surface and underground warehouse storages.
  • Collect underground scrap and materials, bringing them to the surface to sort, segregate, and maintain a high level of housekeeping throughout the underground mine.
  • Accurately document and report shift details to the Shift Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide operational guidance to other employees and crew members.
