About The Position

This Undergraduate Intern position in Information Systems is with Austin Aviation, part of the City of Austin. The City of Austin is a vibrant community focused on shaping one of the nation's most dynamic cities, guided by principles of Empathy, Ethics, Excellence, Engagement, and Equity. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, owned by the City of Austin and operated by the Department of Aviation, is a significant economic engine in Central Texas and is currently undergoing its largest improvement program, "Journey With AUS," which involves expansion and development. The purpose of this position is to assist in general administrative or research functions to develop a working knowledge of a targeted area in municipal government. Specifically, the IT Business Systems Analyst Intern will support the IT and Data Analytics teams. This involves assisting in the collection, analysis, and transformation of enterprise data to support business decision-making. The role requires working closely with stakeholders to gather reporting requirements, validate data, and contribute to the development of dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI. This position offers hands-on experience in business analysis, data transformation methodologies, and modern analytics practices within an enterprise environment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university undergraduate degree program, with some advanced coursework related to the internship program.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of applicable processes, techniques, and methods.
  • Knowledge of City practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to create clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with City employees and the public.
  • Must be in possession of a Texas driver's license as authorized by the Texas Transportation Code.
  • Meet the standards of the City's safe driver program: age 18 or older, current applicable driver’s license, proof of insurability and no more than six (6) points assessed on Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) based on Department of Public Safety's (DPS) Driver Record Report.
  • Ability to read, write, and fluently speak in English.

Responsibilities

  • Observes and assists professionals in the assigned department to learn about areas of career interest.
  • Assists, as necessary, in the coordination, administration, or monitoring of specific programs.
  • Assists, as necessary, with researching, collecting and organizing data, performing analyses, and preparing reports to supplement knowledge gained through academic courses.
  • Participates, as necessary, in finding solutions to existing problems and discusses recommendations with administrative personnel to acquire skills in problem solving.
  • Assists with special projects.
  • Support the IT and Data Analytics teams by assisting in the collection, analysis, and transformation of enterprise data to support business decision-making.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to gather reporting requirements, validate data, and contribute to the development of dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI.
  • Perform basic data profiling, cleansing, and documentation of business rules.
  • Support data quality efforts and the creation of reusable data products.
