About The Position

This Undergraduate Intern position in Environmental at Austin Aviation is designed to assist in general administrative or research functions, allowing the intern to develop a working knowledge of a targeted area in municipal government. The role involves observing and assisting professionals, coordinating and monitoring specific programs, researching and organizing data, performing analyses, and preparing reports to supplement academic knowledge. Interns will also participate in problem-solving and assist with special projects. Specifically, this position will support senior and mid-level staff with routine environmental inspections, utilize GPS units to record critical stormwater infrastructure, electrical vehicle charging infrastructure, chemical storage information, and waste management tracking in GIS. The intern will be required to perform fieldwork, operate City vehicles, and collect and organize data. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university undergraduate degree program, with some advanced coursework related to the internship program
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and ordinances
  • Knowledge of applicable processes, techniques, and methods
  • Knowledge of City practices, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Ability to create clear and concise reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with City employees and the public
  • Must be able to perform fieldwork
  • Must be able to operate City vehicles
  • Must be able to collect and organize data
  • Possession of a Texas driver's license
  • Meet the standards of the COA safe driver program (age 18 or older, current applicable driver’s license, proof of insurability and no more than six (6) points assessed on Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) based on Department of Public Safety's (DPS) Driver Record Report)
  • Ability to read, write, and fluently speak in English
