About The Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position for an undergraduate student at UND. The role involves assisting in a research project focused on bio-based polymer precursors and epoxy resin formulations. The position requires approximately 10 hours per week and involves laboratory work, material characterization, and data analysis.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in polymer science, synthesis, and development
  • Hands-on experience with additive manufacturing and material characterization
  • Proficiency in chemical analytical analysis
  • Strong background in material characterization (SEM, XRD, FTIR, TGA, DSC, GC-MS)
  • Enrolled as an undergraduate student in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related STEM discipline.
  • Completed (or currently enrolled in) introductory chemistry and laboratory courses with demonstrated laboratory safety awareness.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to accurately maintain laboratory notebooks and experimental records.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently after training, and collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
  • Willingness to commit approximately 10 hours per week for the duration of the project or as determined by the research supervisor.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
  • Must be a UND student.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US and complete required employment eligibility verification form.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with data analysis software is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the synthesis, purification, and preparation of bio-based polymer precursors and epoxy resin formulations following established laboratory protocols.
  • Conduct material characterization, including mechanical, thermal, and antimicrobial testing, and accurately record, analyze, and summarize experimental data.
  • Support the fabrication and optimization of polymer specimens using 3D printing and other additive manufacturing techniques, including evaluating printability and processing parameters.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, prepare chemical solutions and samples, follow laboratory safety procedures, and contribute to research reports, presentations, and scientific publications.
