This internship is approximately 13 weeks and includes project-based and experiential learning. The role is at Amgen's newest drug substance manufacturing plant in Holly Springs, NC, which will combine single-use and traditional equipment, incorporating industry 4.0 capabilities and sustainability innovations to achieve carbon neutrality by 2027. Operations is a core function at Amgen, responsible for manufacturing and delivering safe and effective medicines. It is divided into Supply Chain, Process Development, Quality, Manufacturing, and Facilities & Engineering. Interns will lead initiatives, strategic analysis, and business case development on projects across these Operations functions, making recommendations to senior leadership.

Requirements

Expected completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
Expected continued enrollment in an accredited college or university following the internship program
Student must be located in the United States for the duration of the internship program
Must be available to work a full-time schedule
Must be available to accept and commit to future full-time employment by July 2028, if offered
18 years or older
Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Nice To Haves

Degree concentration(s) in Engineering, Chemistry / Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomanufacturing, Life Science, Biology, Biotechnology, or Supply Chain
Strong knowledge of MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
VBA for Excel and SQL knowledge
Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, project management, problem solving, analytical and quantitative skills
Demonstrated personal initiative, self-motivation, flexibility and adaptability
Proven leadership experience on campus (e.g., projects, clubs, organizations, sports)

Responsibilities

Provide representation supporting the design and construction for functional area projects
Completing technical evaluations, presenting data, making recommendations, and closing action items
Work cross-functionally to identify the problem, measure the current state, develop recommendations through qualitative and quantitative analysis, and present the findings
Functional specific tasks such as completion of equipment design, development of supply planning tools, or maturation of unit operational readiness deliverables
