About The Position

The Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System (GCVHCS) requires an Unarmed Security Guard I for the Panama City VA Mental Health Clinic and the Panama City Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Panama City, Florida. This role involves safeguarding VA property, protecting patients, staff, and visitors, monitoring building access and security/fire systems, and responding to emergencies and security incidents. The guard will work Monday through Friday, from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm, excluding weekends and federal holidays.

Requirements

U.S. Citizenship or authorization to work in the United States
21 years of age or older
State of Florida Class D Security Guard License
High school education or equivalency
Two (2) years’ experience demonstrating the ability to meet and deal with the general public, maintain poise and self-control under stress, and construct and write clear, concise, accurate, and detailed reports.
Ability to speak, read, and write English.
Capability of reading and understanding printed regulations, detailed written orders, training instructions and materials.
Ability to compose reports in English that convey complete information.
Demonstrate maturity, sound judgment, excellent character, a good work ethic, job-completion skills, and dependability.

Responsibilities

Provide physical security by conducting patrols of assigned areas, being alert for dangerous conditions, reporting dangerous conditions or unlawful activity to responsible authorities.
Notify local authorities when crime prevention efforts fail, and notify the COR (Police Operations Officer) or designee, and the Chief of VA Police (Biloxi) within 30 minutes of an incident being under control.
Render courteous assistance to employees, patients, and visitors during emergencies, including door and vehicle unlocks and jump starts.
Exercise leadership, control, and direction during fire, storms, earthquakes, or other life-threatening mishaps.
Operate and enforce a system of personnel identification at the Entrance Control Post.
Perform package inspection when directed.
Monitor building intrusion detection system and other protection devices or building equipment.
Observe building occupants and visitors for compliance with posted rules and regulations.
Handle and secure lost and found items until Environmental Services takes control.
Report potentially hazardous conditions and items in need of repair to the VA’s facility manager.
Turn off unnecessary lights, close windows, and open/secure doors and gates as necessary.
Document incidents on VA Form 1393, Uniform Offense Report, and obtain necessary VA Forms using the Veterans Affairs Police Reporting System (VAPS).
Respond to emergencies and provide appropriate assistance, notifying law enforcement and the COR as necessary.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
