About The Position

The Ultrasound Technologist is fully competent to perform all diagnostic procedures for the Diagnosis of specific diseases or conditions. This role involves assessing patients, reviewing orders and charts, preparing patients for procedures, and communicating with supervising radiologists. The technologist is responsible for accurate documentation in the Radiology Information System (RIS), maintaining a safe environment, monitoring exam timeliness and quality, and performing QA of exams. Additionally, the role includes participating in the clinical education of student sonographers and department Performance Improvement Projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduate of AMA approved Sonography program required
  • New graduates who are registry eligible must be registered by either ARDMS or ARRT (Sonography) within 12 months of hire date required
  • Current AHA CPR certification required
  • Technical skills and expertise in performing diagnostic and vascular sonography

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year experience preferred
  • ARRT (Sonography) or ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer(RDMS) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Competent in the technical operations of all equipment in this section
  • Assess patients, review orders/chart as appropriate confirming reason for exam
  • Ensure pertinent patient symptoms and clinical history are documented and a signed consent form is present if needed
  • Prepare patients for procedure, answer any questions and effectively communicate with the supervising radiologist for special instructions and/or questions regarding exam protocol
  • Responsible for prompt completion and accurate recording of exam begin and end time in the Radiology Information System (RIS) to ensure timely access to study by the radiologist
  • Provide safe environment to include infection control guidelines, universal precautions and patient safety goals
  • Monitor the timeliness of exams and quality of care based on established department goals, striving for continuous quality improvement
  • Perform QA of exams (correct order, accurate/complete image annotation, correct laterality) prior to sending to radiologist for interpretation
  • Participate in the clinical education of student sonographers
  • Participate in department’s Performance Improvement Projects
  • Other duties as assigned
