About The Position

The Registered Ultrasound Technologist performs ultrasound patient examinations based on approved ultrasound department protocols and procedures. This role involves maintaining knowledge of department scan protocols, completing peer reviews, preparing daily schedules, and managing patient files. The technologist is responsible for restocking and cleaning ultrasound rooms and equipment, completing competency assessments, and demonstrating proficiency in RIS/HIS and telephone systems. Additionally, the role includes assisting with invasive procedures, transporting lab samples, and possessing knowledge of insurance codes and required paperwork. The position requires frequent use of fingers and hands, standing and walking for extended periods, and the ability to push, pull, lift, and move patients and objects with assistance. Bending, stooping, crouching, and reaching above shoulder level are also necessary. Normal hearing and vision are required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a recognized Medical Sonography Program.
  • ARDMS or ARRT (S) registry required.
  • ARDMS credentials in Abdomen and OB-GYN are required.
  • Current BLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of computer basics a must.
  • Sonographers Registered in only (1) specialty when hired are required to obtain the second specialty with 12 months of hire.
  • Sonographers hired to perform dedicated breast ultrasound on a full-time basis will be required to obtain their breast credentials within 12 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional Radiology Department experience is helpful.
  • Clinical training must be in the areas Abdominal, OB-GYN, small parts, and some experience in breast imaging.
  • Registry in Vascular Technology a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Performs ultrasound patient examinations based on approved ultrasound department protocols and procedures.
  • Completes a minimum of (2) peer reviews on an annual basis.
  • Reviews and prepares the daily schedule with the Ultrasound Manager or Patient Care Coordinator at the beginning of each shift.
  • Gathers all patient Radiology file folders, reports and impression sheets for the day’s schedule.
  • Responsible for pulling Radiology file folders as needed throughout the day.
  • Observes file room protocols for film sign out and return, and film jacket set-ups.
  • Ensures Ultrasound rooms are restocked on a daily basis at the end of the shift with laundry, SPD and Store Room supplies.
  • Cleans each room at the end of each study and ensures it is ready for the next patient.
  • Cleans equipment regularly with documentation of a minimum of 12 equipment cleanings per year.
  • Completes yearly-required competency assessments as set by the Ultrasound Manager.
  • Demonstrates competency in the use of RIS/HIS and telephone systems appropriate for their job responsibilities.
  • Assists the Interventional Nurse and Radiologist in preparing for invasive procedures, by setting up trays using sterile techniques, gathering necessary supplies, assisting during procedures and clean up using Universal Precautions and proper sharps disposal.
  • Transports any laboratory samples to the lab following the procedures.
  • Possesses knowledge of insurance codes, Radiology procedure code sheets, patient charts and required paperwork needed for all procedures and department requirements.
