About The Position

Works under the supervision of the Ultrasound Manager. The Ultrasound technologist's primary job function is to perform and record diagnostic ultrasound imaging studies according to regulatory and departmental protocols. Is responsible for ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality of records. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
  • Completion of Certificate Program or Associate's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography program required
  • ARDMS registered or ARDMS registry eligible/registered in Abdomen or OB/GYN within one year of hire required.
  • Second registry required as determined in consultation with Ultrasound Manager within 2 years of initial hire required.
  • BLS within 90 day introductory required

Nice To Haves

  • If a failed attempt was made at passing the first or second registry, an extension may be granted by manager.

Responsibilities

  • Assess physician's orders to ensure correct exam.
  • Obtains and documents patient medical history information.
  • Properly identifies patient.
  • Determines extent of exam and archives images to PACS system.
  • Discusses imaging information with radiologist and other physicians.
  • Assists physicians during procedures as needed.
  • Behaves in a professional manner at all times (includes not abusing telephone privileges, breaks, socializing, and being consistently punctual etc.). Acknowledges and adheres to the Standards of Behavior handbook.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.
  • Requests equipment service as needed.
  • Assists in training new or less experienced employees.
  • Maintains clean work area and equipment as well as par level stocking.
  • Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy.
  • Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU’s.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
