About The Position

The Ultrasound Technologist provides clinical imaging services by performing diagnostic procedures using modality-specific equipment such as CT, MRI, mammography, or ultrasound. This role works directly with patients to obtain high-quality images, ensuring proper positioning, safety, and comfort while consistently following established protocols and radiation or ultrasound safety standards. As part of a collaborative imaging team, the technologist works closely with radiologists and other clinical staff to support accurate diagnosis and timely patient care. Through attention to detail, patient-focused interaction, and effective communication, the Ultrasound Technologist contributes to smooth departmental operations and a positive care experience.

Requirements

  • ARRT(S) or ARDMS registered or registry eligible (required within 2 years when NDMIRTBE license is conditional).
  • NDMIRTBE license or NDMIRTBE Conditional license.
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare provider BLS required within 30 days of hire.
  • RDMS (AB and/or OB/GYN), or ARRT(s) Registered Technologist (required within 2 years when NDMIRTBE license is conditional).
  • Utilizes teleradiology equipment as needed.
  • Utilizes hospital information system and radiology information system as required for charges and proper patient status.
  • The Ultrasound Technologist requires the ability to stand and walk for much of the shift; position and transfer patients; and operate imaging equipment and computers using fine motor skills.
  • Team members must be able to lift, push, or pull at least 35–50 pounds and assist with patient positioning and movement.
  • Adequate vision, hearing, depth perception, and communication skills are necessary for safe imaging practice and patient interaction.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preferred, but not required. New graduates are welcome to apply.
  • RVT optional.
  • Will be cross trained into vascular ultrasound if no formal vascular education has been completed.
  • A graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic imaging procedures according to physician orders and departmental protocols, ensuring high quality images for interpretation.
  • Verify patient identity, review relevant history, and explain procedures to promote comfort and cooperation.
  • Position patients and operate imaging equipment safely, following radiation/ultrasound safety and infection prevention guidelines.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality and completeness; repeat images as needed within scope and policy.
  • Document procedures in the electronic record and imaging systems and communicate significant findings to appropriate staff.
  • Assist with equipment quality control, supply management, and continuous improvement of imaging services.
  • Performs Ultrasound studies by independently scanning patient parts as ordered.
  • Provides the Radiologist with the technologist's interpretation
