About The Position

This is a hospital-based ultrasound position providing a variety of diagnostic imaging services to both inpatient and outpatient populations. The selected candidate will perform general ultrasound examinations and may have the opportunity to support procedural imaging services, including Thoracentesis, Paracentesis, and Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA). This role offers broad clinical exposure and the opportunity to expand procedural ultrasound skills in a collaborative hospital environment. Participation in the ultrasound call rotation is required, with expected call coverage hours from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Call responsibilities are rotated among team members, and rotating holiday coverage is expected. This is a new facility, and schedules may evolve as operational needs become clearer following the hospital's opening. The schedule listed reflects anticipated hours at launch. Planned start dates are March 2027, with orientation and training completed prior to the facility opening on May 1, 2027. Training may include rotations through Ball Memorial Hospital, existing Fort Wayne outpatient locations, and the new Fort Wayne hospital department prior to opening. These rotations are designed to provide exposure to a wide variety of procedures and patient populations. Most positions will participate in a rotating holiday schedule.

Requirements

  • 0-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required.
  • Ability to maneuver equipment and improvise positions when the condition of the patient does not permit routine positioning.
  • For ACR accredited ultrasound departments: Requires active status through one of the following: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS): Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Abdomen, RDMS(AB), Obstetrics & Gynecology, RDMS(OB/GYN), or Pediatric Sonography, RDMS(PS), and/or Registered Vascular Technologist - Vascular Technology , RVT(VT); American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT): Registered Technologist - Sonography, RT(S) or Vascular Sonography, RT(VS) ; or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI): Registered Vascular Sonographer, RVS; as required by facility accreditation, if applicable.
  • Exception for breast ultrasound only: Must obtain credential through American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS): RDMS(BR); or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT): Registered Technologist - Sonography & Breast US, RT(S)(BS), or Radiography , Mammography & Breast Ultrasound, RT(R)(M)(BS); within 18 months of hire.
  • For non-ACR accredited ultrasound departments: Must be actively pursuing ultrasound education and have already passed the ARDMS physics boards, or must have graduated from an ultrasound education program. Requires certification through one of the methods mentioned in the accredited section above within 12 months of hire.
  • May be required to meet registry/certification requirements for another modality, if applicable.
  • May require license from Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH), if applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • General and Vascular sonography experience preferred.
  • Familiar with current scan protocols.
  • Possesses familiarity with ultrasound contrast indications and administration practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provides diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound to generate images of patients' internal organs, tissues, and blood flow.
  • Responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment.
  • Evaluates images for diagnostic quality and makes necessary adjustments to capture the best possible images.
  • Collaborates with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to provide accurate diagnostic information.
  • Ensures patient safety and comfort during procedures by explaining the process, positioning patients correctly, and adjusting equipment as needed.
  • Maintains compliance with high level disinfection practices.
  • Assists with minimally invasive procedures as needed.
  • Provides intraoperative ultrasound as requested.
