About The Position

This job performs prescribed imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment and initiative.

Requirements

  • Minimum Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of relevant experience and/or training; or equivalent education
  • One or more of the following certifications is required within 12 months of hire. If already certified, active certification must be maintained: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or Sonography-RT(S) or Vascular Sonography-RT(VS) certification and registration via the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Breast (BS) via the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) earned prior to 2011
  • Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) certification via Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • For technologists who have been performing ultrasound prior to and continuously since October 1996 AND have been evaluated by a responsible physician to assure competence, certification is not required.
  • CPR – American Heart Association
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s).
  • Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results.
  • Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure.
  • Enters, transmits and reports scan results.
  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders.
  • Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies.
  • Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters.
  • Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
  • When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice.
  • Monitors patient condition continually and responds to changes in status as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
