About The Position

This job performs prescribed imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment and initiative.

Requirements

Minimum Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of relevant experience and/or training; or equivalent education
One or more of the following certifications is required within 12 months of hire. If already certified, active certification must be maintained: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or Sonography-RT(S) or Vascular Sonography-RT(VS) certification and registration via the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Breast (BS) via the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) earned prior to 2011
Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) certification via Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
For technologists who have been performing ultrasound prior to and continuously since October 1996 AND have been evaluated by a responsible physician to assure competence, certification is not required.

Responsibilities

Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s).
Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results.
Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure.
Enters, transmits and reports scan results.
Reviews patient history and physician's orders.
Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
Prepares equipment and supplies.
Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters.
Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment.
Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice.
Monitors patient condition continually and responds to changes in status as appropriate.
Performs other duties as assigned.
