This position is accountable for operating ultrasound scanners, IV contrast administration, transportation of patients to and from the department, handling telephone calls for scheduling patients, answering questions, and calling reports of exams. The technologist must be able to handle patient support equipment, such as I.V. pumps and O2. The incumbent helps clean rooms and equipment, orders supplies, assists physicians with procedures, and administers basic C.P.R. They also assist the supervisor in the daily operation of the Ultrasound department, maintaining a high standard of imaging quality. A thorough knowledge of ultrasound physics, anatomy, and positioning is essential for a quality exam. The technologist must be able to handle multiple demands simultaneously and maintain a helpful attitude towards patients, their families, office personnel, physicians, and associates. They must be able to coordinate patient prepping and scanning to maximize smooth patient flow. Availability for 24-hour call back with a 45-minute response time is required. The incumbent must be able to help move patients when needed and participate in performance improvement initiatives. They will assist with other activities as deemed necessary for the day-to-day operation of the department. The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in their assigned area. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and provide the care needed as described in the department's competency plan.
