About The Position

Under the supervision of the Lead Ultrasound Technologist, this position provides direct patient care services and other related functions in support of the department. The technologist performs independently within the scope of department policies and clinically works at the direction of a qualified Radiologist. This role involves travel between Marlborough and Nashoba/Groton as scheduled to provide operational, administrative, or departmental support. The float requirement applies to newly hired staff at UMass Memorial Nashoba Valley.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Ultrasonography or Radiological Technology program.
  • Registration required by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in one category within one year of hire date.
  • Minimum one year of experience in diagnostic ultrasound under the direction of a qualified physician.
  • Knowledge consistent with outlines in Physics and Instrumentation, Abdominal OB/Gyn Ultrasound for ARDMS exams.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide quality patient care with minimal supervision in a fast-paced setting, collaborating with peers to produce optimum results.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with patients and families.

Responsibilities

  • Properly performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations, consistent with the age of the patient, in in-patient or outpatient settings, in compliance with departmental and professional standards and protocols.
  • Gathers pertinent clinical data and maintains accurate patient records.
  • Accurately completes all records, paperwork, and billings and submits promptly.
  • Positions and transfers patients appropriately and assists physicians with interventional exams.
  • Promptly and properly completes exams, performs QC to images and sends exams to PACS for review by the radiologist.
  • Assists the radiologists with ultrasound guided interventional procedures.
  • Follows Universal protocol in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.
  • Assists in maintaining an orderly inventory and in arranging the purchase of needed supplies.
  • Monitors equipment to ensure that it remains in proper working order and ensures that proper supplies are available as needed.
  • Utilizes proper sterilization and cleansing of all probes according to department policy and procedure.
  • Assists with other job-related duties including film processing, urgent requests, and scheduling.
  • Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Attends a variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as or directed.
  • Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
