About The Position

Under the direction of the Radiology Director and a radiologist, performs imaging procedures producing two-dimensional high frequency sound waves to create diagnostic images of the human body for use in diagnosis of medical conditions. This role requires a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Responsibilities include knowledge of all Ultrasound procedures, proper patient positioning, exposures, utilization of PACS, implementation of patient charges, and assisting physicians as required. The technologist will be available for emergency on-call procedures as required. Additionally, the role involves recognizing the need for and assisting with pain control/assessment for patients, helping to prevent or reduce patient pain levels when possible.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • CPR Certification required
  • Use common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick or handicapped.
  • Understand technical information from supervisors, charts, reference books, manuals and labels.
  • Use eyes, hands and fingers with skill.
  • Work fast in an emergency situation.
  • Effectively communicate with people when they are sick, handicapped, or nervous.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of an accredited Ultrasonography program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of a Radiologist, produces high quality images on all patient age groups.
  • Provides patient education about procedure to be performed.
  • Utilizes appropriate positioning of patient for procedure.
  • Selects appropriate Transducer for specific body part.
  • Reviews images for quality and accuracy of images obtained.
  • Assists Radiologist with Invasive Procedures.
  • Sets up room properly for specific procedure.
  • Practices principles of sterile technique.
  • Labels items on trays in accordance with required Joint commission standards.
  • Selects appropriate procedure trays/instruments needed.
  • Obtains images as requested by Radiologist to facilitate diagnosis of disease processes.
  • Maintains Patient and Personal safety.
  • Uses two (2) identifiers approved by the hospital to verify patient identity.
  • Utilizes all required infection control practices.
  • Follows principles of good body mechanics when lifting.
  • Utilizes appropriate transfer techniques for patient condition.
  • Recognition and Documentation of abnormalities.
  • Recognizes and documents abnormalities, pathology, and/or fetal abnormalities.
  • Obtains correct and appropriate measurements for both normal and abnormal structures (i.e. fetal measurements, ovarian/uterine measurements, st/mass measurements).
  • Keeps acoustic power values within acceptable limits when performing exams.
  • Completes sonographic procedures in a timely manner to avoid unnecessary exposure to patient/fetus.
  • Utilizes field of view, gain, and other adjustments to maximize quality of images.
  • Completes all exams timely in PACS.
  • Properly performs procedure for making patient CD’s.
  • Verifies that written physician order matches order in PACS.
  • Verifies all images are in PACS, scans any required documents, and adds additional study information in notes section as needed.
  • Operates film digitizer to add films to PACS.
