About The Position

Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic medical sonograms at a technical level requiring sound understanding of anatomy measurements and abnormal or suspicious anatomy; a high degree of technical competency and with the ability to act with initiative and ingenuity with minimal supervision. Employees in this position will be responsible for inpatient on-call and shift rotation. Requirements

  • Certificate under the completion of a Medical Sonography program Required or Associate's Degree under the completion of a Medical Sonography program Required
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Non-registered sonographers must successfully complete the ARDMS registry within 24 months of hire date) Required
  • Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association within 30 Days Required
  • Understand and utilize anatomy, positioning, physics

Nice To Haves

  • At least one (1) year Sonography experience Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Review outpatient orders prior to day of procedure to ensure accuracy and to avoid delay in patient care.
  • Provide excellent patient care by educating and preparing patients for their procedure while utilizing effective communication.
  • Position patients so desired anatomy will be demonstrated and ensure patient comfort and safety for the duration of their procedure.
  • Obtain and document accurate patient medical history to assist radiologist’s interpretation.
  • Perform a variety of diagnostic sonograms to include but not limited to Abdomen- Aorta, right upper quadrant, renal, renal doppler, OB GYN- first, second, and third trimester fetal examinations, pelvis- trans abdominal and transvaginal. Small parts- thyroid, extremity, scrotum, and breast. Pediatrics- pylorus, spine, hips. Procedures- Biopsies of thyroid, liver, lymph nodes, renal, aspirations, paracentesis, and thoracentesis.
  • Perform standard diagnostic sonogram procedures as required by physician’s order.
  • Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology.
  • Completion of exam in hospital information system.
  • Cleaning and maintaining all imaging equipment.
  • May also assist with mentoring and/or training students, new hires.
