This position is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment and performing diagnostic examinations. Depending on the work location, the Ultrasound Technologist may also oversee daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, manage patient schedules, maintain equipment, report failures, and conduct quality assessment. The sonographer is expected to uphold high ethical standards and continuously enhance their understanding of the field, diseases, and evolving procedures.

Requirements

• Technical Diploma from an accredited two-year Ultrasound Program required.
• Registered Diagnostic Sonographer OR Registered Vascular Technologist required.
• Ability to effectively operate sonographic equipment required.
• Ability to evaluate sonograms to acquire appropriate diagnostic information required.
• Ability to follow established departmental procedures required.
• Ability to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations required.
• Emotional and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position required.
• Strength sufficient to lift some patients, move heavy equipment on wheels (up to approx. 500 lbs), and move patients in wheelchairs and stretchers required.
• Ability to maintain prolonged arm positions necessary for scanning required.
• Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

• Associate's degree in a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of Ultrasound experience.
• 3 - 5 Years OB/GYN, small parts and/or vascular experience.

Responsibilities

• Operates Ultrasound equipment to take diagnostic images of specific body areas/parts as ordered.
• Produces diagnostic images for interpretation by a physician.
• Demonstrates thorough knowledge of Ultrasound equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Instructs and supervises ultrasound students in a clinical practicum.
• Works with ultrasound students to perform exams and performs individual image evaluation.
• Assists in the care and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and supplies.
• Reports equipment problems or malfunctions to the supervisor in a timely fashion.
• Accurately utilizes systems and enters proper exam coding.
• Arrives and completes exams in a timely fashion.
• Accurately utilizes the PACS system to make images available for physician interpretation.
• Creates a minimum number of exceptions.
• Prepares patients using proper positioning and/or immobilizing patients and giving them proper instructions regarding the procedure.
• Ensures quality review of technologist's images falls within departmental SOP guidelines.
• Is observed to give clear and concise instructions to the patient before beginning an exam.
