Produces diagnostic images using ultrasound equipment to assist physicians in the diagnosis of disease and for interventional procedures. This role involves collecting patient data, verifying physician orders, ensuring proper screening protocols are followed, and obtaining informed consent. The technologist analyzes patient information to determine optimal imaging parameters, selects appropriate equipment and techniques, and obtains high-quality images according to established protocols. They are responsible for sending images to PACS for interpretation, notifying healthcare providers of critical findings, and initiating further scanning techniques as needed. Documentation of patient history, exams, and findings in the HIS/RIS and PACS systems is crucial. The role also includes coordinating with scheduling and nursing units for STAT or ASAP orders, responding to emergencies, and maintaining equipment and supplies. This includes performing daily QC, reporting malfunctions, and implementing downtime procedures for equipment, HIS/RIS, and PACS. The technologist is expected to attend department meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
