About The Position

Perform ultrasound procedures to assist in the diagnosis of medical conditions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of physician office procedures, ICD-9 and CPT coding guidelines.
  • Knowledge of ultrasound equipment and procedures, protocols and safety hazards common to administering ultrasounds including equipment, body mechanics and patient movement.
  • Ability to recognize normal and pathological features.
  • Ability to speak clearly and communicate effectively and to read, understand and follow written and verbal instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot equipment problems and perform simple adjustments.
  • Skill in the production and communication of sonograms.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification required upon hire/transfer.
  • Registered in OB/GYN with RDMS within 1 year of hire/transfer.
  • Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a specialized training program in Ultrasonic Technology or on-the-job training with a registered sonographer preferred.
  • One year of experience performing ultrasound procedures in a hospital, clinic or physician’s office preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains essential information from patients, medical records and previous scans for correlation.
  • Performs ultrasound procedures as prescribed by a physician including positioning patient, selecting the appropriate scan images to be recorded and obtaining diagnostic sonographic images by scanning the appropriate body part of the patient.
  • Prepares the diagnostic ultrasound imagery report, saves the hard image and a copy of the report in the patient’s chart and submit the report to the appropriate physician.
  • Assists physicians with ultrasound guided procedures such as amniocentesis and saline infusion sonograms.
  • Ensures all procedures are conducted following established sterilization techniques and procedures.
  • Maintains and orders ultrasound supplies as necessary.
  • Documents patient information, test and examination results and care provided in the patient’s paper or electronic health record.
  • Using the Electronic Health Record, documents and bills for services rendered.
  • Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
