Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of ultrasound technology.
  • American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) Certification, preferably in Abdomen and Obstetrics, and preferably an advanced Specialty Certification in Vascular Sonography.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Knowledge of proper procedures and protocols for performing a variety of ultrasound scans.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of patient preparation and tolerance assessment.
  • Knowledge of pathology assessment.
  • Knowledge of various pieces of equipment used in performance of ultrasound scans.
  • Knowledge of department and hospital safety practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of patient rights.
  • Knowledge of age-specific patient care practices.
  • Knowledge of infection control policies and practices.
  • Knowledge of handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate from an ARDMS accredited ultrasound program
  • Certified with ARDMS in either AB, OB or VT
  • Experience in a high volume acute care hospital
  • Experience in a high volume ultrasound department
  • Experience with OB, General, and Vascular Ultrasound

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of ultrasound examinations to help diagnose patient's condition.
  • Performs a variety of ultrasound scans such as neonatal, pelvic, abdominal, arterial/venous, carotids, etc.
  • Uses equipment associated with performing ultrasound scans.
  • Communicates effectively with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties.
  • Efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
